Key Dates for the 2nd Half of 2023

| June 21, 2023

With the 2nd half of 2023 nearly upon us, we take a quick look ahead at some important upcoming dates for which to prepare.

September 15th:  Estimated Tax Payments for the 3rd quarter are due for the self-employed or those who do not have automated withholding from other sources of income.

October 1st: FAFSA and CSS Profile open date. Planning to apply for financial aid for the upcoming school year? Both the FAFSA and CSS Profile are first available in October each year.

October 15th: Medicare Open Enrollment. For those who did not enroll in Medicare Parts A & B during the spring open enrollment period, there is a general enrollment period from October 15th to December 7th. This is for individuals who do not qualify for a Special Enrollment Period due to their employer healthcare coverage beyond age 65.

October 16th: Tax Filing Deadline with Extension. If you filed for an extension in completing your 2022 return, October 16, 2023, is the deadline to get it to the IRS. October 16th is also the deadline to make a 2022 SEP IRA contribution, if eligible.

December 31st:  At the end of the year, there are various deadlines to keep in mind (see below). It’s important to not wait until the last day of the year, though, to prevent processing delays. The last day of the year is the:

  • Deadline for year-end charitable giving.
  • Deadline to make 401(k) contributions.
  • Deadline to complete Roth conversions, in order to be taxed in 2023.
  • Deadline to complete any Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs).
